Eligibility Criteria:

Residential Properties: The program is available to homeowners of single-family homes, townhomes, and mobile homes.

BC Hydro or FortisBC Customers: To be eligible, homeowners must be customers of either BC Hydro or FortisBC, which are the primary electric and gas utilities in British Columbia, respectively.

Energy Assessment: Homeowners are required to have a pre- and post-energy assessment completed by a program-qualified energy advisor. The energy assessment helps identify energy-saving opportunities and provides recommendations for improvements.

Rebate Amounts:

The program offers rebates for various energy-efficient upgrades, including heat pump installations. The specific rebate amounts for heat pumps may vary depending on the type and efficiency of the system. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the rebates for heat pumps under the program were as follows:

• Air Source Heat Pumps: Up to $3,000 in rebates for the installation of qualifying air source heat pump systems.

• Ground Source Heat Pumps: Up to $7,000 in rebates for the installation of qualifying ground source (geothermal) heat pump systems.

Application Process:

To apply for the rebates under the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program, homeowners need to follow these general steps: 

• Energy Assessment: Schedule a pre-upgrade energy assessment with a program-qualified energy advisor. 

• Upgrades and Installation: Complete the upgrades, including the installation of the heat pump, following program guidelines and requirements. 

• Post-Upgrade Assessment: Schedule a post-upgrade energy assessment with the same energy advisor who conducted the pre-upgrade assessment. This assessment verifies the completed upgrades. 

• Rebate Application: Submit the rebate application form along with the required supporting documents, including invoices and receipts, to the program administrator within a specified timeframe.

• Rebate Processing: The program administrator reviews the application and, if approved, issues the rebate.

The EfficiencyBC Program

This program is a provincial initiative in British Columbia aimed at promoting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The program offers a range of rebates and incentives to homeowners, businesses, and institutions for implementing energy-efficient upgrades. The EfficiencyBC Program provides financial incentives to encourage energy-efficient upgrades in existing buildings. The program is administered by BC Hydro, FortisBC, and the Province of British Columbia, with the goal of helping individuals and organizations reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.
